It’s been a wild ride.
Health report: K’s ankle is no issue.
P has had fever/throat infection. Antibiotics have maybe helped.
We both have sinusitus. Tons of crud coming from nose.
We are back in Gorak Shep to eat as much as we could and send
this report.
We did 1.5 days rest at base camp…then did big load up/through
Khumbu Ice Fall. It lived up to everything we have ever read about
it. 6.5 hours up ladders/enormous crevasses by the hundreds and
constant shifting of ice beneath us. It was taxing, but we have
established our Camp 1 for Team SOLE. We sunbathed, set up tent
put gear in, and made very interesting trip back down to base
camp. This place the most ….well….kinda….dangerous part of
the trip/climb. We will rest 1.5 more day to store up on calories,
and we will take the biggest load K and I can possibly carry and
make a Camp 2 up the glacier, near the bottom of Lhotse face.
We will sleep at Camp 1 to acclimatize, a new base camp for us
and avoid the ice falll all together. You will likely not hear from us
for maybe 1 week, till we built our camp 2, then camp 3 (ONLY
us climbing Nuptse), we’ll be alone. Then K and I will spend as many
days as we need to establish fixed lines up to Nuptse…25,800′ or
so…then we will attempt summit….and charge back down…as
best we can. Be patient. No news is good news.
Hi light has been, meeting legendary Dr. Eric Johnson, and Dr. Torrey
and all around cool guy Rowan at the med tent.
Jordan and all close family and friends….we love you and miss you
more than we can put in words. Our long hours in tent and trail
we are thinking about every one of you.
Ram- we know nothing of Puru…please arrange for him to have
porters ready for us, and secure all this.
Dad- love ya tons, DON’T worry.
Everst Base Camp: great cinammon rolls. Come try one.
Remember our goal has already been accomplished….to recon
the valley, and the khumbu ice fall and upper western cwm. So,
Nupste is icing…if it will let us climb her.
Yes, Ed…Bonington. Un freakin believable timing and experience.
Going with out Sherpa’s and base camp facilities has been
interesting…only the Finn everest team is going w/out sherpas…
kinda fun,,, but kind of a good workout too.
Gota jam, this is costing us a mint.
Go fast, take chances.
P and K
Team Sole
