The 7 Summits of Big Bear Youth Challenge is open to all youth ages 9 – 15. The Youth Challenge is a series of 7 hikes led by local 13 year old mountaineer, Jordan Romero.

Come prepared for a good, fun, challenging hike. Here are some ideas of what to wear and what to bring. FREE to all participants.
WHAT TO WEAR:
Trail Running Shoes (boots are not necessary, skate type shoes are not recommended)
Socks (non cotton socks, cotton socks encourage and create blisters)
Loose fitting shorts (jeans are NOT recommended – School PE shorts are okay)
Loose fitting shirt (non cotton shirt is best, but a t-shirt is acceptable)
Sunglasses
Baseball Style Hat or Visor
WHAT TO EAT / DRINK
- We’ll provide some sports drink to fill your reusable water bottle.
- We’ll provide a reusable water bottle for everyone to use and keep (thanks SOLE!)
- Snacks – We’ll provide some energy bars for everyone. Bring some non-sugary snacks (trail mix, nuts, dried fruit, peanut butter/jelly sandwich, jerky, fruit, etc.)
- A small backpack to carry water and food.
SCHEDULE
Jordan will meet the group (along with some adult chaperones) You can pre-register online or register the day of the hike. We encourage you to register in advance so we have a good idea of the number of hikers. You will need a parent or guardian with you to sign a waiver/permission form. Registration and check-in begins at 9:00 a.m. To register in advance send an email with your name and age to Jordan@jordanromero.com
OTHER INFORMATION
- Check the weather forecast www.bensweather.com and choose your clothing accordingly.
- Don’t overpack food. Think about what you can eat while walking. We won’t be making a “lunch stop” but participants will be encouraged to eat and drink along the way.
- Don’t overpack your backpack. You’ll need water and food for 3-4 hours. The more you bring the more you have to carry. Carrying a heavy backpack will make the hike much more difficult. Keep your pack as light as possible.
- Everyone who finishes the hike will be eligible for great raffle prizes immediately following.
